I chose this recipe because it has been in my family for years and it is a mouthwatering deliciousness that you will never forget! Feffernusen in English is pepper nuts. It is a German cookie that tastes delicious.
  • 1 cup of butter
  • 4 cups of brown sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 61/2 cups flour
  • 1 tbs. baking soda dissolved in 1 tbs. water
  • 1 tsp. of tartar
  • 1tsp. of cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. mace
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. anise oil or 2 tsp.anise extract
  • 4 cup finely chopped nuts (optional)

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs to anise oil. Mix remaining ingredients. Chill batter overnight. Roll batter out into a snake and cut vertically. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Let them cool down and enjoy!

  1. These look good!
Are they more like a cracker or cookie, or more like bread?
